Phase 1: Biomechanical Foundations

Establish strict physiological parameters. Incorrect posture and excessive force are the primary catalysts for RSI and speed ceilings.

How the course works

The course is built around the way touch typists actually learn: start from the home row, add one small group of keys at a time, and never move on until the motion feels automatic. Each lesson highlights the next key on an on-screen keyboard and colours every key by the finger that should press it, so you can train your hands without looking down.

To complete a lesson you need to clear a small speed and accuracy target. That keeps you honest: it is easy to type fast and sloppy, but the goal here is clean, confident typing that holds up at speed. Your best result for each lesson is saved on your device so you can pick up where you left off.

Frequently asked questions

What is touch typing?
Touch typing means typing without looking at the keyboard. Each finger is responsible for a fixed set of keys, anchored on the home row (ASDF for the left hand, JKL; for the right). With practice your fingers learn the keys automatically, so your eyes stay on the screen.
How long does it take to learn touch typing?
Most people learn the basic finger positions in a few hours and see improvements in a few weeks. If you want to know how to increase typing speed quickly, consistency matters far more than long sessions — ten focused minutes a day beats one long session a week.
How do I stop looking at the keyboard?
Use the on-screen keyboard guide in each lesson instead of your hands. It shows the next key and which finger to use. It feels slow at first, but forcing yourself not to look is the single fastest way to build real touch-typing muscle memory.
What is the correct finger position?
Place your left fingers on A, S, D, F and your right fingers on J, K, L, ;. Both thumbs rest on the space bar. The F and J keys have small bumps so you can find the home row by feel. Every finger reaches up and down from its home key and returns.
Is the typing course free?
Yes. Every lesson is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser. Your progress is saved locally on your device and nothing you type is uploaded.
Should I focus on speed or accuracy first?
Accuracy first, always. Errors force you to stop, backspace, and retype, which costs more time than typing a little slower. Each lesson asks you to hit an accuracy target before it counts as complete, so speed builds on a solid foundation.
