What this tool can and cannot do
Some PDFs open without a password but restrict printing, copying, or editing — these are owner-level restrictions. This tool re-saves the PDF without those restrictions, no password needed. If a PDF requires a password to open at all (a user password), enter the password and the tool decrypts it entirely in your browser, producing a clean, permanently unlocked copy. The tool cannot crack a password you do not know — you must have the correct password to decrypt.
How to unlock a PDF
- Click Add file and select your PDF, or drag it in.
- If the PDF needs a password to open, type it in the password field. If it only has print/copy restrictions, leave the password blank.
- Click Unlock and download the clean, unlocked PDF.
Worked example
A bank statement arrives as a PDF that won't let you print or copy text — only view. You load it here, leave the password blank (it's an owner restriction, not an open password), click Unlock, and download a copy you can print and copy from. Because the unlock runs in your browser via WebAssembly, the statement's financial details never leave your computer.
